Top Chinese Shopping Startup Visit to Ireland Promises a reach of 160 Million

Visit by leading Chinese online shopping platform and other media delivering a focus on Ireland

One of China’s largest e-commerce startups Mogujie, which is a fashion and lifestyle magazine targeting an audience of 160 million - predominantly young women - together with representatives from Lonely Planet, San Lian Life Weekly and other online media have arrived in Ireland for a week to learn more about two of Fáilte Ireland’s major tourism brands: the Wild Atlantic Way and Dublin – A Breath of Fresh Air.

A tailored visit has been designed to promote Ireland to the Chinese market and is being hosted and managed by Fáilte Ireland in collaboration with Tourism Ireland.  For some of the visiting group this is their second time to Ireland but they have now returned to learn more and provide a deeper knowledge of Ireland to their readers.

While on the Wild Atlantic Way the group will take a Trad Softly Walking Tour with guide David Lawless in Sligo and visit W.B. Yeats grave at Drumcliffe.  They will then head to Dingle and to the Blasket Islands Visitor Centre, see the Gallrus Oratory, visit the Louise Mulcahy Pottery and  take a Dingle Distillery tour before spending time exploring Dingle village on foot.  After that, they visit Killarney to see Kate Kearney’s cottage and enjoy a jaunting tour (by jarvey) of the Gap of Dunloe before ending their tour in Dublin at the Guinness Storehouse.

Ciara Sugrue, Fáilte Ireland’s Head of International Publicity, explained –

“Fáilte Ireland is delighted to welcome these Chinese media to Ireland, including Sligo, and hope their experiences while here will help them to persuade their many followers and readers to be inspired to visit us in the future.

“China is the world’s largest source market, accounting for an estimated 85 million outbound trips in 2016.  It is also projected that Europe will welcome an estimated 11 million Chinese arrivals in 2016 - a share of 12% of the Chinese market.   With the Chinese market to Europe forecast to grow by 9% per annum over the next five years, these Chinese decision makers have the capacity to deliver significant amounts of visitors to Ireland and their presence here is testament to Ireland’s appeal as a destination.”
