All Aboard for Great Autumn Offers
New research shows one in two adults intend to take a break in Ireland over the next 12 months
As many as one in two Irish adults intend to take a holiday or short break at home over the next 12 months according to the most recent independent research undertaken for Fáilte Ireland. The news came as the tourism authority joined forces with Iarnród Éireannto launchtheir autumn home holiday marketing campaign at Heuston Station.
The two agencies have teamed up to launch the Discover Ireland Autumn Campaign and emphasise that many weekend destinations are easily accessed by train. A Discover Ireland Day is taking place today (Friday 10th September) at Heuston Station with almost 30 tourism businesses from across the country promoting their wares and offering special offers on accommodation, activities and attractions to passing commuters.
Speaking about Fáilte Ireland’s home holiday campaign, John Concannon Director of Market Development for the national tourism development authority emphasised-
“Our 2010 home holiday campaign – the biggest to date – has proved very successful with many Irish people foregoing a foreign holiday this year and instead, choosing to take a break in Ireland. The autumn promotional drive will target the off-season traveller who is looking for that something extra, with many of the featured offers providing a free special treat such as a €50 spa voucher or an extra night free.”
Promotions and offers also will feature online and through the Discover Ireland Special Offers Autumn Brochure. Almost 1.1 million copies of the brochure will appear in national newspapers this weekend with thousands more available to the public from local tourism information offices. The promotion is being supported by a comprehensive radio campaign which began earlier this week (6th September).
Mr Concannon continued -
The summer is over, the weather is changing and the kids are back to school. So why not pick up the autumn edition of the Discover Ireland Special Offers brochure and plan your perfect autumn break. Packed full of over 200 brilliant value breaks for all the family, it’s full of special treats too. From free €50 spa vouchers and free extra nights to ‘2 for 1’ offers to top City attractions your only problem will be agreeing on what to do first!
It’s never been easier to get your hands on a copy of the Discover Ireland brochure - don’t miss your copy in a selection of the national weekend papers from this weekend. Or simply pop-in to your nearest Tourist Information Office, or go to
www.discoverireland.ie and download your own copy, and you will be on your way to getting all the best deals available this autumn.”
Amazing Autumn Offers
The autumn brochure contains more special offers than ever before centred on accommodation as well as attractions and restaurants. There are over 500 special offers available online at www.discoverireland.ie . These offers are made possible through the contributions and participation of hundreds of tourism businesses.
Commenting on this, Mr Concannon added -
“The range of special offers in the autumn brochure and online are a reflection of the determination of tourism businesses out there to fight for every potential inch of the market. It is up to all of us in the tourism sector to do all we can to secure every piece of business possible by offering good value and a great experience.”
Iarnród Éireann are also launching their new Trips by Rail guide at the event, with a range of holiday and short break ideas for rail customers, across the network. This follows a busy August in the staycation market. Iarnród Éireann Corporate Communications Manager Barry Kenny said -
“On many routes, we have seen strong demand for home holidays and in particular short breaks. With online fares available from €10 each way on all Intercity routes at www.irishrail.ie , Discover Ireland Day at Heuston Station will give commuter and Intercity customers alike the opportunity to plan their next short break in Ireland, and see the genuine value that is available at our hotels and attractions, and by rail.”
The Fun Starts Here
The Home Holiday Autumn campaign is an integral part of Fáilte Ireland’s overall Home Holiday campaign 2010 launched in March. This campaign aims to position Ireland as a fun, exciting, enriching holiday destination and reinforce existing perceptions of a destination that is both convenient and good value for money. It has incorporated print and broadcasting advertising as well as a wide range of promotions. The centerpiece of the campaign has been brand new television advertising placing the stress on Ireland as a venue for fun and activity – emphasizing the fun starts here.
