Students Scale the Heights of Tourism
Fáilte Ireland has launched its student magazine Picktourism.ie – with some current tourism students helping to launch the magazine at the Climbing Wall in Trinity College Dublin.
The Picktourism.ie magazine complements the Picktourism website, which is designed specifically for second level students, to provide an insight into the tourism industry and the range of interesting and exciting tourism careers and courses available.
Profiling a number of current students and recent graduates, the magazine features articles such as ‘The Wedding Planner’, ‘Cooking on the high seas’ and ‘Looking after the Irish Rugby team is all in a day’s work’.
The magazine hopes to raise awareness to the variety of roles available in tourism. It also informs students on why they should pick tourism as a career and on the various routes to qualification, including the ‘Earn and Learn’ programme. Students can also find out how much money they can expect to earn in various roles from reading the magazines benefits guide.
Speaking after the launch – Sean O’Malley, Fáilte Ireland’s Manager for Education Operations, said -
“Many final year students in particular will spend the next few months considering their choices as they start to climb onto their preferred career ladder. We are encouraging students to scale the heights of tourism and to consider Ireland’s largest indigenous industry as an option.
“The Picktourism.ie magazine and the Picktourism.ie website work together, to provide second level students with a great insight into careers and courses in tourism. Students can then make an informed choice when selecting their course choice either through the CAO or going the ‘Earn and Learn’ route.”
