Our 4 Step Application Process

Review the supporting documentation listed below to familiarise yourself with the assessment process and to determine the rating for which you’d like to be assessed.

Each property needs to meet minimum standards. Currently, there are separate criteria for cottages/houses and apartments.

To join and benefit from Fáilte Ireland's quality assurance scheme for individual self-catering properties, please register your interest via our dedicated website www.onlinelistingtool.failteireland.ie.


If you own more than seven units on one site, please visit:
Holiday Cottages - Group Schemes or
Holiday Apartments - Group Schemes.

3Step 3 - Assessment Back to top

Once your application has been received and processed, a representative will contact you within three working days to offer guidance, discuss the criteria for classification and the assessment process and to progress your application.

All queries and requests for information should be addressed to the Tourism Standards Assessments Ltd (TSA)

The initial fee for assessment is €400 (excl. VAT). The fee covers your first advisory visit and subsequent report for a one year period after which the annual renewal fee for assessment is €165 (excl. VAT).   

4Step 4 - Approval Back to top

Once your application is approved, your property is registered with Fáilte Ireland and awarded a quality assurance certificate.

Quality assurance certificates are valid for an initial 1-year period and must be renewed annually.

Quality-approved signs are part of  customer awareness campaigns to help promote quality assurance awards and include:

• Exterior signs and plaques
• Window stickers
• Bromides / .jpeg format images for use on web and printed promotional material

We also endeavour to assist quality-approved businesses to maintain and exceed the required standards through a range of business advice and support programmes customised for and only available to tourism enterprises registered with Fáilte Ireland
