Where there is open, two-way and effective communication in a business, the levels of contribution will always be higher. The structural components of communication are critical, because one of the most frequently heard complaints from employees is that they get fed up with not knowing what’s going on.

Build communication channels

Make sure you have a range of formal channels in place which allow you to interact with your employees on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly basis.

The mindset that lies behind how you communicate with your people is crucial. If you genuinely view them as partners in the business, then it's natural for you not only to communicate with them, but to draw them into the decision-making process as much as you can.

You can't involve, or empower your employees if you do not communicate with them in a meaningful way.
