Search engine optimisation 1/3

When someone uses an internet search engine, such as Google, Bing and Yahoo, to look for websites that offer certain products and services, they enter terms into a search engine.

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is the practice of optimising your website so it will appear high up in the list of results when such a search is performed.

By incorporating certain design elements, such as keyword phrases, into your website, you can ensure that the site is placed and ranked highly in the natural search results.

Why should you use SEO?

Image of a search engineNearly 80% of people searching for information online type phrases into a search engine. Google alone fields over 91 million searches per day. How much of that traffic do you want?

In approximately 50% of online searches, potential customers select a company found on the first or second Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs).

If your company is not found in the first 10 to 20 results, you’ve already lost out on at least half of your potential business – while your competitors, who are highly ranked, are enjoying a lion’s share of the traffic.

The bottom line is that online sales are growing. When a potential customer performs a search through a search engine, do they find you or your competitor? SEO really is your ticket to getting that crucial exposure online.
