Fáilte Ireland continues to accept applications from individual Institutes of Technology on behalf of
academic staff or students for assistance and support for appropriate professional development
programmes or exchanges. Guidelines for Lecturer Development and Student Schemes are provided
below.
Educational Study Visits (Familiarisation Trips)
Fáilte Ireland continues to accept applications for funding of educational study visits in Ireland, for students participating on Fáilte Ireland funded programmes. Requests for funding should be made to Fáilte Ireland through a Head of School/ Department, indicating the link to syllabus and outcome of visit, prior to event. Post event applications will not be accepted.

Fáilte Ireland continues to accept applications from individual Institutes of Technology on behalf of academic staff and students for assistance and support for appropriate Professional Development Programmes.
As discussed during the Annual Research Forum in the Gibson Hotel in October 2011, support funding criteria has now changed. In contrast with previous years where funding was provided in anticipation of applications, Institutes of Technology must now apply directly for this funding to Fáilte Ireland.
This includes the JWU programmes below although interested applicants must now make their own arrangements. Fáilte Ireland will no longer process applications.
IOTs may apply for support funding for Professional Development initiatives which comply with the funding criteria set out below. All applications must be made through the Head of School / Department and not on an individual basis.
New Schemes - Support Funding Criteria 2012
With the exception of the JWU programmes below, a proposal for funding will need to be submitted by the Institute’s head of School / Department for any planned professional development activity / scheme or programme.
Submit a proposal for funding with the following information:
• Name of Partner/ Institution to be visited
• Rationale for funding
• Learning Objectives of activity / scheme / programme
• Structure of proposed activity / scheme / programme
• Number and individual detail of participating academic staff
• Resume or CV of Lecturer and programmes/ curriculum and subjects taught (Lecturer Only)
• Timelines and intended dates for activity to take place
• Proposed feedback mechanism to Fáilte Ireland on experiences gained and planned actions as a
result of attending activity / scheme / programme detail included above and proof of expenditure.
Note: All Fáilte Ireland funding is subject to auditing. It is important records of expenditure and
the above detail is maintained by the Institute for verification purposes. |

Johnson and Wales University (JWU)
JWU Lecturer Development
Fáilte Ireland and the Institutes of Technology have for some time now enjoyed strong links with JWU led by Kevin Duffy, Dean of Culinary Operations at the Providence campus. Thirty five lecturers have benefited from the Johnson & Wales Lecturer Development initiatives over the past five years.
A request for funding support must be made to Fáilte Ireland. Once approved, the Institute must apply directly to Johnson and Wales University, application forms and contact details are provided below.
Please see below date options for JWU lecturer programmes:
• 4th - 18th April, 2012 - Arrive Monday 2nd April and leave 19th or 20th
• 19th - 3rd May, 2012 - Arrive Tuesday 17th of April and leave 4th or 5th of May
• 7th - 17th May, 2012 - Arrive Saturday 5th of May and leave 17th or 18th

Please note the JWU lecturer Development initiative is open to Full Time Tourism and Hospitality Institute of Technology Lecturers only.
The deadline for receipt of applications is the 5th of March 2012. Applications will not be accepted after this date. Places are limited to a maximum of 4 places per segment and 8 places in total. Segments will be filled by JWU on a first come first serve basis.
JWU Student Scholarship
Fáilte Ireland are also pleased to confirm that funding will be available for the JWU Student scholarship scheme which takes place in the Autumn of 2012. An application for funding support must be made to Fáilte Ireland. Once approved, the Institute must apply directly to Johnson and Wales University. The deadline for receipt of all applications is the 9th March 2012.

Ferrandi
Over the past number of years, Culinary and Restaurant lecturers have benefited from partaking in professional development programmes at Ferrandi (formerly L’Ecole Gregoire Ferrandi). The school is reputed as one of the world’s leading educational institutions for craft based training and continues to offer a number of programmes for International lecturers. Fáilte Ireland has for some time now funded student participation at the Annual Association of European Hotel Schools Conference and Competitions. The 25th AEHT Annual Conference will take place from Monday October 8th to Saturday October 13th, 2012 in Macedonia.
As with all Lecturer Development and Student Scholarship schemes above, the funding mechanism has now changed. Colleges wishing to participate at next year’s competitions will need to contact Jean Smyth (details above) for funding approval. Once approved, colleges should visit www.aeht.eu for further information.
