Second Level
One of Fáilte Ireland's roles is to 'encourage, promote and support recruitment, training and education and development of persons for the purposes of employment in connection with the tourism industry in the State.'
Fáilte Ireland gives second level students an introduction into the importance of the tourism industry through the well-established Tourism Awareness Programme (TAP) for Transition year students, additional Transition Units and international competitions sponsored by the Global Travel and Tourism Programme.
This second level educational project aims to:
- Promote the national importance of tourism among young people
- Highlight the career opportunities in tourism
- Develop students' interpersonal skills
As tourism has a major influence on both our economy and development, young people studying the Tourism Awareness Programme will benefit from having an overall awareness of the nature and complexity of the industry, whether or not they plan to pursue a career in tourism.
Currently there are more than 250 second level schools running this programme.
If you would like further information on the programme or to register your school, contact Ann Whelan – ann.whelan@failteireland.ie, 1850 256 256 or visit www.tourismawareness.ie.
