Tour Guide Training Programme
In order to be a Fáilte Ireland approved guide you must:

Successfully complete a FETAC/HEATC tour guide programme

Complete a specified number of tours which must be evaluated by a tour operator or employer

Hold a current Occupational First Aid Certificate (FETAC Level 5 or equivalent)
These programmes are only delivered during the winter months (October or January) and are heavily subsidised by Fáilte Ireland. FAS and some local authorities have assisted individuals in the past. Please contact them directly for further information.
A tour guide is busiest during the summer months and is self-employed. Fáilte Ireland do not employ guides, however we do on occasion contact Fáilte Ireland approved guides for specific tours.
If you are a language guide, you must be able to guide a tour for a number of days in your chosen language. Secondly, you must have a certificate of language fluency completed by an appropriate language institute and be fluent in English.
The 2011/12 programme is fully booked and the application process is now closed.
