A treasure hunt, a photo game, a heritage guide – A one stop shop for free family fun
Waterways Ireland, Fáilte Ireland and the Midlands Regional Authority have joined forces today to launch a new free ‘Lakeland Treasures’ app for the iPhone, at Belvedere House in Mullingar. The app designed to target the family market highlights the excellent range of heritage attractions the Lakelands region has to offer.
Commenting at the launch in Belvedere House, Fáilte Ireland’s Colm Breheny said:
“With the phenomenal growth in the use of mobile technology this Lakeland Treasures app will ensure that visitors to the area will have at hand all the information needed to make their visit both enjoyable and memorable."
Established as a pilot, it is the intention to extend the Lakeland Treasures app to include over 100 heritage attractions across the region. A photo treasure hunt, Lakeland Treasures is a family fun way to explore 10 of the Midlands best known heritage attractions including the world renowned Clonmacnoise, Athlone Castle, Strokestown House, Emo Court & Ardagh Heritage Village.
Speaking today Éanna Rowe Co-Chair of Lakelands & Inland Waterways said –
“This was a joint initiative between Waterways Ireland, Fáilte Ireland and the Midland Regional Authority - under the Lakelands & Inland Waterways banner – together with County Councils in Laois, Longford, Offaly, Roscommon & Westmeath who played a key role in the development and delivery of the app in conjunction with the developer Nimble Tours. I wish to thank everyone for their effort in producing what we hope will become the number one tool for visitors to the Midlands.”
Start anywhere in the Lakelands and the app will take you to the nearest attractions. With clues, hints, and a secret to be revealed at the end, it is fun for all the family, young and old. The guide section gives the family just enough information on the key heritage features and their beauty to enhance their visit to the Lakelands. The app links to places to eat, stay, and other attractions by closest proximity, ensuring you and the family are never without fun, entertainment or hospitality even without wifi cover! Lakeland Treasures is free to download from the app store.
