New corporate meetings fund secures first big win for Ireland

Dublin and Killarney set for €9 million corporate windfall

Fáilte Ireland today announced that their new fund, designed to attract more corporate meetings to Ireland, has secured its first major win.  A major US insurance company has chosen Ireland as the location for its 2015 sales force meeting.  With over 2000 delegates staying for 7 nights, the event will bring a boost of over €9m to the Irish economy.

The final host city competition was between Dublin, London and Edinburgh with two cities out of the three to be selected.  However, destination management company, Odyssey International, working together with Fáilte Ireland added Killarney as a wildcard entry and struck gold when the decision was made to bring the event to Dublin and Killarney.

Welcoming the news, Paul Mockler from Fáilte Ireland said –

“Corporate meetings are big business for tourism and represent a real opportunity for Ireland to attract more visitors and importantly more revenue.  The value of the corporate meetings sector is €100 million with each delegate worth €1150 a day to the economy – almost twice that of a leisure visitor.

”We are delighted that our Corporate Meeting Supports strengthened Odyssey Internationals bid to bring this major corporate event to Ireland.  Now our focus changes to ensuring that the delegates are impressed by what we have to offer as well as ensuring we attract more of this kind of business to our shores.”

The Corporate Meeting Supports is specifically targeted at encouraging multinationals based both in Ireland and abroad to bring their next corporate meeting to Ireland. Ireland’s new Corporate Buyers Network is aimed at encouraging corporate buyers to bring large scale meetings to Ireland. Through our Corporate Ambassador Programme these supports help individuals of influence within an organisation to bring their corporate meeting to Ireland.

Kevin Shannon, Odyssey International commented -

“This piece of business will have a major impact on the local economy and the supports from Fáilte Ireland were fantastic in helping us win this lucrative business for Ireland.”
