One Young World conference a great opportunity to showcase Dublin

1400 Delegates descend on Dublin with Estimated Economic Value of almost €2 million

The Fáilte Ireland supported One Young World Conference opens in Dublin and will provide a boost to the city and Ireland as a business destination. The event takes place in the Convention Centre Dublin (The CCD) from today (October 15th) until Sunday and will welcome 1,400 delegates as well as many high profile public figures and global corporate leaders. The delegates are all leading lights in social change and are mostly between the ages of 18-30 years old and are from 196 countries.

Fáilte Ireland, through the Dublin Convention Bureau, supported the bid to bring the prestigious event to Dublin as part of its Conference Ambassador Programme. Local hosts were assisted both practically and financially to prepare the bid and host a site inspection. The bid process, which began in March 2013, saw Dublin beat off stiff competition from Edinburgh and Hong Kong.

Fáilte Ireland estimates that the event will be worth almost €2m in direct economic impact for the local economy but it is even more valuable as an opportunity to market ourselves as a ‘can-do’ and professional business destination. To emphasise this, Fáilte Ireland will host a special Welcome Dinner in the CCD on tonight for high profile international sponsors from the corporate world as well as top overseas media to showcase all that Ireland has to offer to both the business and the leisure markets.

Speaking about the value of the One Young World taking place in Dublin, Paul Keeley, Director, Fáilte Ireland said:

“Fáilte Ireland was delighted to support the bid to bring this prestigious event to Dublin. Business Tourism – whether conferences, meetings or incentive travel - is a hugely important element of our strategy to develop and sustain Irish tourism and grow revenue and jobs in the sector.  An event such as One Young World not only contributes to the local economy but provides a great ‘shop window’ to showcase Dublin and Ireland’s ability to host further world class events.”

The business tourism sector is worth €579 million a year to the Irish economy, supporting 19,000 jobs.

Already in 2014, Failte Ireland has recorded almost 60,500 international delegates coming to Ireland worth an estimated value of €85 million.

Fáilte Ireland’s Conference Ambassador Programme

Organising a conference may not be everyone’s area of expertise and the Meet in Ireland team believes it doesn’t have to be.  The Conference Ambassador Programme provides the first point of contact for any international organisers with a dedicated team on hand to assist in making introductions and providing practical assistance within the destination.

As part of this programme, a wide range of professional supports are made available to conference ambassadors and international associations, including financial and practical assistance – more information can be found on www.meetinireland.com/conferenceambassador

Since launching the Conference Support Programme in 2009, Fáilte Ireland has supported and mentored almost 660 conference hosts to host or pitch for their conference, aimed at welcoming a cumulative figure of over 400,000 international delegates and with a potential associated value of €560m.
