42 Days to Brexit: Irish Hoteliers take part in Fáilte Ireland programme to help deal with Brexit

With 42 days remaining to the Brexit deadline of 31st October, Fáilte Ireland is helping members of the Irish Hotel Federation to step up their preparations with a tailored Market Diversification and Business Performance Programme.

Hoteliers from across Cork city and county today attended one of a series of workshops as part of the programme at the Oriel House Hotel in Ballincollig, Co. Cork. The programme, which began in June, will continue into November to support hotels post Brexit, focusing on driving market diversification and commercial growth.

Helen McDaid, Fáilte Ireland said: “While it is still difficult to quantify the range and scope of the impact that Brexit will have on the tourism industry, Fáilte Ireland research has shown that it is the number one concern amongst businesses. Our key message for all businesses is to ‘prepare and diversify’ and we work closely with tourism businesses to support the development of a world class industry in the face of Brexit.

“This bespoke programme will give businesses across Ireland’s Ancient East and the Wild Atlantic Way in Cork the sales tactics and strategies they need to drive commercial growth by retaining and growing business from the UK in addition to other key leisure markets.”

Speaking about the Market Diversification and Business Performance Programme, Neil Grant from the Irish Hotel Federation Cork branch said:

“Brexit is a real concern for hotels here in Cork and we are delighted that Fáilte Ireland is running a programme tailored specifically to our members’ needs. The Market Diversification and Business Performance Programme will help boost hotel sales capabilities across the county and focus on international opportunities for growth.”

Mary Bernard from Maryborough Hotel & Spa, who is currently completing the programme, added:
“Fáilte Ireland’s Market Diversification and Business Performance Programme has been very insightful so far and is helping us to leverage Cork and the regional brands to get traction in international markets and drive business outside peak times.”

This Market Diversification and Business Performance Programme is part of Fáilte Ireland’s Brexit Response Programme which includes a range of supports to help prepare the tourism industry for Brexit. To date, Fáilte Ireland has engaged with 3,000 business and trained over 8,000 individuals in preparation for Brexit.

The first step for any business looking to prepare for Brexit, is to complete the Fáilte Ireland Brexit Readiness Check - it takes less than 10 minutes to complete and provides a useful report that tells businesses just how ‘Brexit ready’ they are. More than that, it also provides practical advice on what businesses can do to further prepare for Brexit and outlines how Fáilte Ireland supports can help them.
