Fáilte Ireland welcomes Ryder Cup 2026 announcement

Fáilte Ireland is welcoming the official announcement from the Government that Ireland is to host the 2026 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in Co Limerick.

CEO Paul Kelly has congratulated Ministers Ross and Griffin and Government officials for their intensive work on securing this major sporting event for Ireland

With every overseas golfer typically spending three times more than the average overseas holidaymaker the economic benefit to Ireland will be considerable and the international media exposure invaluable according to Fáilte Ireland.

"The real value of the Ryder Cup to Ireland is not just the immediate economic benefits but the opportunity it presents to place Ireland on a global stage as one of the premier golfing destinations in the world. Already more than 200,000 tourists travel here to play golf and contribute almost €300million to the Irish economy. Today’s announcement that Ireland will host the Ryder Cup will serve to enhance our reputation and appeal as a leading golfing destination while ensuring a powerful lasting legacy.  I congratulate Minister Ross and Minister Griffin and Government officials for their tireless efforts in securing this major event for Ireland.  I also want to take this opportunity to acknowledge and congratulate the management and staff of Adare Manor and its owner Mr. JP McManus.  The dedication and commitment they have shown to tourism and to the region has been matched with significant investment and today their visionary plans have borne fruit,” stated Paul Kelly.

“To support officials from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport in their negotiations, we were tasked as the National Tourism Development Authority, to commission an economic impact study on hosting the Ryder Cup at Adare Manor in 2026.  The study concluded extremely significant returns for the Irish economy and considerable employment potential in the region.  We are looking forward to supporting the Government further in the coming years so Ireland’s position as a world class golfing destination is enhanced and to ensure our tourism industry and our economy reap the rewards from today’s historic announcement,” concluded Paul Kelly.
