Fáilte Ireland’s KNOW SLIGO Local Experts Programme Kicks Off

Fáilte Ireland are today holding a KNOW SLIGO Local Experts Programme initiative for nearly 150 attendees who are involved in the tourism sector and the local community and who welcome and engage with visitors to Sligo. The programme kicked-off today with a number of interactive workshops on what to see and do in Sligo at the Radisson Blu Hotel with two additional workshops taking place tomorrow 12th June at 9.30am and 2pm.

At the core of this programme is a network of local people who came together to share local knowledge to help visitors make the most of their visit to Sligo. The programme will also feature a number of annual events, social media initiatives, a Visitor Attractions pass and the development of a tourism business network.

Explaining the programme, Aoife McElroy, Visitor Engagement, with Fáilte Ireland said that those attending come from a diverse range of tourism businesses who all want to provide visitors with the best experience of Sligo, its attractions and people:

“Sligo’s historical buildings and towns, its stunning landscape and world class beaches are brought to life every day by those interacting with visitors. Visitors not only seek out local people and their advice, they trust it. Increasingly visitors tell us that they rely on and really trust the advice and information received from local people they meet while on holiday. This programme aims to build on that sentiment by inspiring all front line employees and volunteers to turn every visitor interaction into a truly informative and positive experience.”

Anthony Gray of Ela Bhan and Hooked Restaurants, Sligo, said that he was delighted to attend the Programme workshop as it provided an opportunity for Sligo tourism businesses to meet and share positive experiences.

“Today is a fantastic event with nearly 150 tourism businesses attending over the two days to hear from Fáilte Ireland and each other on how we can further ensure that visitors to the county are provided with a first-class and positive tourism experience when they visit. The numbers attending reflect the importance of tourism to Sligo and the determination of local people to make sure that the vital economic contribution that visitors bring to our local economy continues to have a positive impact.”
