Global Audience for Galway International Arts Festival

Travelzoo - Online Media Company With 28 million Will Broadcast Live from Galway

In a great coup for tourism in the west, US presenter Gabe Saglie and his film crew with Travelzoo, the global online media company with 28 million members in North America, Europe, Asia Pacific and the largest publisher of travel, entertainment and local deals, will be in the City of the Tribes this weekend, to film the Galway International Arts Festival.

Fáilte Ireland, in partnership with Tourism Ireland and Galway International Arts Festival have facilitated this visit and are working with Travelzoo to provide assistance on the ground during filming of the Festival including an interview with local chef Jp McMahon.  The broadcast will go live from the People’s Demolition in Eyre Square on Sunday 22 July.

Ciara Sugrue, Head of Festivals and Events with Fáilte Ireland welcomed Travelzoo to Ireland and commented:

“Festivals and events provide a great motivation for visitors to visit Ireland and add another dimension to the tourist experience on the ground. As well as attracting visitors, festivals are important in terms of generating employment and community engagement. Through the National Festivals and Participative Events Programme, Fáilte Ireland invests almost €4m in existing festivals and aims to foster innovative and imaginative new ideas that have potential to become a significant part of Ireland’s exciting festival and events calendar."

Festivals and events drive growth from key overseas markets through compelling experiences that are attractive to our target audiences and to generate additional overseas visitors across the country and across the calendar year.

Senior Editor with Travelzoo, Gabe Saglie, commented:

“Ireland is consistently one of the most searched-for international destinations on the Travelzoo website, so it is exciting for us to share the magic of the Galway International Arts Festival with the world through another one of our exclusive Facebook LIVE broadcasts.  On a personal note, I fell in love with Galway on my first visit a few years ago – there is a special energy here, driven by its people and its cultural heritage.  No wonder Galway won European Capital of Culture for 2020. I can’t think of a better way to spend what’ll be my 10th visit to Ireland covering the Galway International Arts Festival and witnessing world-class art and music at its most spectacular.”

John Crumlish, Galway International Arts Festival CEO said.

"Galway International Arts Festival brought thousands of international visitors into the city in 2017, filling hotel rooms, restaurants and bars, and contributing to the festival's estimated €29.5m economic impact. We have been working with our tourism partners all year to ensure last year's record-breaking numbers are surpassed in 2018 and beyond. Travelzoo's attendance and broadcasting from the Festival will greatly assist us in putting Galway International Arts Festival front and centre in international visitors minds."
