Local Experts Wanted for Fáilte Ireland’s KNOW GALWAY Programme

Fáilte Ireland is launching a new and exciting initiative encouraging Galwegian’s who welcome and engage with tourists to become part of their Local Experts Programme. The Know Galway Local Experts Programme aims to ensure that visitors to the city and county enjoy a positive and memorable tourism experience when visiting and as part of the programme, two workshops are planned in Galway on Tuesday, 19th February next at the Galmont Hotel. The workshops are designed to be fun, informative and interactive and attendees will learn about the power of tourism locally and how to offer visitors relevant recommendations on places of interest to visit in Galway.

The Local Experts Programme aims to develop a network of local people who share local knowledge, inspire ‘front line’ personnel to make every visitor engagement a truly positive one and to ultimately grow tourism businesses and the local economy.

Fáilte Ireland have organised two workshops in the Galmont Hotel for Tuesday, 19th February next to help train those interested in becoming a ‘local expert’. The first workshop will take place from 10am until 1pm with another workshop that evening from 6pm to 9pm. The workshops are free and open to anyone involved in the tourism sector or those in the local community that interact with visitors. Those interested can register or find out more by emailing: localexperts@failteireland.ie.

As the Local Experts Programme progresses it will aim to develop a tourism business network and social media initiatives.

Explaining the programme, Niamh Mannion, Senior Travel Advisor with Fáilte Ireland said that the workshops are suitable for a diverse range of tourism businesses and those that want to provide visitors with the best experience of Galway, its attractions and people:

“Galway is one of the most popular destinations in Ireland for international visitors and its attractions are brought to life every day by locals interacting with tourists. Visitors not only seek out local people and their advice, they trust it. More and more holidaymakers tell us that they rely on and trust the advice and information received from the local people they meet during their stay. This programme will build on that sentiment by inspiring all front-line employees and volunteers to turn every visitor interaction into a truly informative and positive experience.”
