New Year’s Festival to be a Tourism Showcase as International Media Arrive
    NYF Dublin launch

As the NYF countdown continues, overseas media from India, Canada, USA, France, Belgium, Spain and the UK descend on Dublin with a circulation of over 10million

Over 900 International media from 20 overseas markets came into Ireland this year providing Irish tourism with an overall reach to over 1.4 billion worldwide

With the countdown firmly on for this year’s New Year’s Festival (NYFDublin) event, Fáilte Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland, are pulling out all the stops to ensure that the opportunities for Dublin and Ireland are maximised and the festival proves a useful calling card to encourage more visitors in 2019 and beyond.  Arriving in Ireland to get a first-hand experience of the celebrations are international media from across seven markets, including India, Canada, USA, France, Belgium, Spain and the UK with a combined circulation of over 10 million.

Speaking today, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin T.D., said:

“The NYE festival rings in the opportunity to put Ireland centre stage and promote the brilliant things we have to see and do here. The advent of so many additional Christmas markets and festive activities around the country this year is adding to the perception that we are a destination with something special to offer over the Christmas period. The growth of the NYE Festival adds significantly to that and plays a leading role in boosting tourism numbers across the period.

“We have had an exceptional year in terms of tourism and that is something we will be building on in 2019. The range of entertainment and events on offer is designed to satisfy all tastes. I have no doubt it will meet that objective. Media from across the globe are flying in to see how Ireland does festivals. I am confident that they will leave early in the New Year impressed by our offering and with plans to encourage additional visitors to Ireland across 2019.”

The work to promote Ireland over the New Year’s break tops a very busy 2018 season selling Ireland. Over 900 International media from 20 overseas markets from print, broadcast and online channels across the world came into Ireland this year providing Irish tourism with an overall reach to over 1 billion worldwide.  The equivalent advertising value of this reach is estimated to be over €100 million. Fáilte Ireland, together with Tourism Ireland, co-ordinated over 400 different itineraries resulting in the media representatives meeting with over 4,000 Irish businesses across the country.

Looking forward to this year’s festival and explaining the importance of hosting such high-profile events, Liam Campbell from Fáilte Ireland’s International Publicity team said –

“This year’s New Year’s Festival promises to be the most impressive end of year celebration the city has ever seen. With a mix of music, culture and craic, Dublin is extending an invitation to the world to come and mark the arrival of the New Year in one of the friendliest cities in the world.

“The festivities also give us an opportunity to raise the profile of Ireland and Dublin as a destination and, along with the thousands of overseas visitors who will arrive, we have invited key media to ring out the old, ring in the new and really experience what a vibrant and exciting place Dublin is.”

The media will get a flavour of Dublin’s culturally ‘cool’ city and it’s vibrant lifestyle as they visit the newest visitor attraction 14 Henrietta Street, a welcome dinner at Fade Street Social for a taste of the best of Irish produce, enjoy a morning of sightseeing around the city and a visit to Teeling’s Whiskey experience and a stroll over to St Patrick’s Cathedral followed by trendy Urban Brewing at the CHQ building.  On New Year’s Day the group will start energetically with a coach trip to the Dublin mountains for a guided hike with Hilltop Treks before returning to the city and a visit to EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum followed by a magical night time spectacular adventure at Wild Lights at Dublin Zoo.

    Economic impact of festivals
Festivals motivate over 200,000 overseas visitors to come to Ireland and contribute €108m to the economy every year.

Festivals are crucial to the tourism sector, and were highlighted in Fáilte Ireland’s recently launched 2019 plans as a key component to continue to grow tourism, extend the season and spread tourism benefits across the country.

Festivals play an important role in delivering brilliant visitor experiences, giving overseas visitors to Ireland a unique opportunity to experience the very best of our culture, people and places. Fáilte Ireland is aiming to grow international visitors coming to Ireland to attend a festival to 300,000 by 2022. The focus of the organisation will be on developing high impact festivals of scale and international standing, particularly at off-peak times of the year and in key geographical areas outside of current ‘hotspots’ around the country.

Now in its seventh year, New Year's Festival Dublin (NYF Dublin) have announced 3 spectacular New Year’s Eve events to ring in 2019 in celebratory style. A Fáilte Ireland and Dublin City Council initiative, produced and promoted by MCD Productions, the festival will play host to a spectacular line up of Irish music and entertainment. Gather together in the heart of Dublin with your family and friends as The Custom House, Dublin’s iconic landmark, will be the centre for NYF Dublin’s three countdown events - Liffey Lights Midnight Moment - Matinee, the 3Countdown Concert and the Liffey Lights Midnight Moment.

Dublin City will light up with excitement as world-class events Liffey Lights Midnight Moment and the family-friendly Liffey Lights Midnight Moment – Matinee make a highly anticipated return this year with brand new countdown spectacles set to amaze audiences. These are FREE events but tickets will need to be booked in advance. Booking details will be announced on at the end of November.

Celebrate the final moments of 2018 with a bang under a canopy of sparks as the Liffey Lights Midnight Moment signals the end of 2018 and the arrival of the New Year. This dazzling lighting spectacle will be performed against the backdrop of the Custom House and features a thrilling choreography of lasers and aqua beams. You'll be amazed as live DJs and percussionists perform on the water in perfect harmony with hundreds of lasers and lights as they illuminate the midnight sky over Dublin City. The free event will start at 11.30pm with excitement building to a crescendo as the clock strikes midnight. This performance is not to be missed.

New Year's Festival Dublin have announced the return of their very special family-friendly countdown event - Liffey Lights Midnight Moment Matinee. Families and friends of all ages can ring in the New Year together with entertainment starting at 6pm leading to the earlier countdown spectacle at 7pm. Your little ones will watch in delight and amazement as laser lights and aqua beams dance through the sky in perfect rhythm with the music as you count down to the New Year together.

Get ready for a New Year's Eve night to remember as platinum selling artist Gavin James has been announced as the headliner for the 3Countdown Concert at Custom House with special guests Hudson Taylor, Wild Youth and Inhaler.
