Over seventy properties throughout Ireland recently received awards under Fáilte Ireland’s Spa and Wellness Categorisation programme at a trade event held in Monart Destination Spa, Co. Wexford. The awards were presented in accordance with the Fáilte Ireland designed national standards and quality framework, and thirty-one Spas were present to receive their awards on the day.

The Spa and Wellness Categorisation Programme was developed by Fáilte Ireland in conjunction with industry representatives to enable existing and prospective customers to better navigate the variety of spa and wellness offerings available, make informed choices and find the products that best match their needs. It allows operators to define and set boundaries including minimum standards for each category. It also assists them in identifying potential new products based on consumer need-states.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, Tony Lenehan, Fáilte Ireland‘s Head of Industry Standards & Quality emphasised -

“This new categorisation system creates a win-win situation for both operators and customers.  It will help operators to better advertise their services and will aid both existing and new customers to better understand the variety of spa and wellness offerings available, make informed choices and find the products that best suit their needs.  It is our intention to continue working closely with the Industry in helping them to best position their product both domestically and internationally, through our training and enterprise supports. ”

Each accredited spa has been assigned to one of the following categories to inform the consumer’s decision making process:

    • Hotel Spas

    • Specialised Retreats
