Built Heritage
Built heritage covers the area of "tangible" heritage that previous generations of Irish people have built and handed down to us. Products such as gardens, stately homes, historic houses, pre-Christian/Celtic/Medieval sites and attractions all fall within this area; as well as centres for interpreting these sites, such as heritage centres, museums, historic towns and interpretive centres.
Development and promotion
The Culture and Heritage team is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring Fáilte Ireland's strategic approach to the development and promotion of built heritage tourism, and in doing so, works closely with relevant industry and agency stakeholders.
Failte Ireland has produced a learning manual on Best Practice in Heritage Interpretation for Heritage Sites and Visitor Attractions (PDF, 1.4MB), called ‘Sharing our Stories.’ It outlines in a very practical way the principles involved in planning and developing your interpretation. A complementary range of practical exercises and best practice case studies (PDF, 140kb) is also available to download.
