Traditional Culture and the Islands

Traditional culture comprises the following product offerings - traditional music, song, dance and storytelling, the Irish language, Gaelic sport, and Ireland’s traditional crafts and customs.

Development and promotion

Fáilte Ireland’s Traditional Culture section focuses on how to develop and market the traditional cultural tourism product in ways that capture the imagination of the visitor and bring it to life.
We work with relevant industry and both tourism and non tourism bodies such as Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Eireann, the Arts Council, Udarás na Gaeltachta, and the Gaelic Games Association, amongst others.

The islands

Ireland’s offshore islands also lie within the remit of the Traditional Culture section, whose primary objective is to develop and promote the islands that support a tourism economy.

The islands offer "a real Ireland holiday experience" and an insight into our culture and heritage. Fáilte Ireland’s key focus is to raise awareness of the islands, increase the number of visitors who overnight on the islands and extend the tourism season.
