For many years, PJ Rigney dreamed of setting up his own distillery. The location was crucial. It had to be wild, unmanicured, away from the hustle and bustle of city life, where PJ would have the freedom and inspiration to indulge his curious mind and experiment with the plethora of skills and ingredients he had collected on his many journeys. Under a winter solstice sun in 2014, the Shed became the first distillery in Connacht in over 101 years and laid down their first cask of “premier grand cru” Irish whiskey. A multipurpose distillery, with state-of-the-art, gleaming, medieval copper pot and column stills, tailor made by Arnold Holstein in Germany. Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin was its first – slow distilled by hand with oriental botanicals and the ever-intriguing gunpowder tea. It was quickly joined by Sausage Tree Pure Irish Vodka, and now with bated breath, comes Drumshanbo Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, the first whiskey to be distilled in Connacht in over 105 years. Tour finishes with whiskey tasting and a refreshing Gin and Tonic. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided for non-drinkers and children under 18yrs old.
