Fáilte Ireland Launches Partnership with Great Place To Work Institute to Showcase Best Practice

• The Spotlight Series will highlight excellent people practices that are being implemented across the Tourism and Hospitality industry.

• The award showcases the industry as a key choice for top talent seeking to forge a rewarding career path.

Fáilte Ireland and Great Place to Work today launched the 2020 Spotlight Series Tourism and Hospitality Award. The new award will not only highlight best practice in career development in the Tourism and Hospitality sector but will also provide a platform for industry to show great examples of investment in people who work in Tourism and Hospitality.

To enter the awards, those working in the industry are called to submit their unique, innovative, and exciting stories by 13th December 2019 to be in with a chance of winning the 2020 Spotlight Series Tourism and Hospitality Award.

Tourism and Hospitality is one of Ireland’s biggest industries, with 260,000 people employed in the sector. This includes hotels, bars, B&Bs, restaurants, visitor attractions and experiences, all playing a vital role in sustaining communities and driving regional development throughout the country. It is estimated that 50,000 new jobs will be created by 2025, with 70% of these jobs based outside of Dublin.

Speaking at the launch of the Spotlight Series, CEO of Fáilte Ireland Paul Kelly commented; “We are delighted to be collaborating with Great Place to Work to launch the Spotlight Series, which will shine a light on careers in our Tourism and Hospitality industry. It is an important partnership to promote one of the most critical industries in Ireland, which contributes €7.5bn in revenue each year for the exchequer. Intrinsic to this are the people and practices of the sector, who ensure that Ireland’s Tourism and Hospitality industry thrives now, and for future generations”. 

Cathal Divilly, Partner of the Great Place to Work Institute explained that: “In the Great Place to Work Institute, we believe that any company, from any sector, can create a Great Place to Work. It takes a focus, on the part of the leaders in the business, to foster high trust relationships with their teams. Through our work we have helped build many Great Workplaces in the Tourism and Hospitality sector. This partnership with Fáilte Ireland will help us to shine a light on the best practice within the sector and encourage talent to choose Tourism and Hospitality as a place where they can build long lasting, fulfilling careers.”

The Spotlight Series was launched following a meeting of the Tourism and Hospitality Careers Oversight Group at the Gibson Hotel. The Tourism and Hospitality Careers Oversight Group supports sustainable employment in the Tourism and Hospitality sector and includes industry representative bodies, education providers and state agencies.

Entries can be made by submitting 500 words, photos or a short video that best illustrates the organisation or individual’s story to IE_Entries@greatplacetowork.com. The closing date for entry is 5pm, Friday, 13th December 2019. The winner will be revealed at the Great Place to Work Awards on the 26th February 2020.
