Fáilte Ireland’s CEO Paul Kelly welcomes announcement by An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar

Fáilte Ireland’s CEO Paul Kelly has welcomed the announcement by An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar confirming the reopening of hotels, restaurants, hostels, caravan parks, galleries and museums from June 29th.   The opening on the same day of bars that also operate as restaurants is also welcomed.

“Today’s announcement by An Taoiseach of an acceleration of the phasing roadmap for reopening society and business is welcome news for our tourism industry. The sector is in deep crisis so it is a timely message that offers hope and reassurance to thousands of business owners, employers and their employees across the country. Along with Ministers Shane Ross and Brendan Griffin and officials from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport we have been working closely with the industry at every point to support and guide the sector during this crisis.

Today marks an important step in reopening domestic tourism and saving jobs.  Our work will continue and intensify to ensure as many tourism businesses rebuild and survive.  Fáilte Ireland in consultation with industry and wider Government is finalising operational guidelines and protocols for the safe reopening of tourism businesses.  These detailed sector specific guidelines will prepare tourism and hospitality businesses for safe reopening and help instil confidence among the public.  Our consumer tracker research is finding that health and safety protocols in premises and ‘safe breaks’ are emerging as strong themes.”
