Stay and Spend

Stay and Spend is a tax scheme that has been created to support the Irish tourism and hospitality sector to help drive sales during the shoulder season.

Aimed at consumers, the scheme will provide a maximum of €125 in income tax credits to tax-payers who spend up to €625 in restaurants, pubs, hotels, B&Bs and other qualifying businesses, from 1st October 2020 to 30th April 2021, including over the Christmas period. It is available to 2.7 million Irish consumers and will see taxpayers earn a tax credit equal to 20% of qualifying expenditure on accommodation, food and non-alcoholic drinks up to a maximum credit of €125.

This amount will be doubled for jointly assessed couples, who can receive a credit up to €250.

Consumers can submit receipts via the newly updated and easy-to-use Revenue Receipts Tracker mobile app. Where a taxpayer has insufficient income tax liability to fully benefit from the measure, they may still avail of the relief against their USC contributions.

Get involved

It is important that eligible hospitality businesses register for the Stay and Spend Scheme as a service provider. Participating hospitality businesses will benefit directly from the increased footfall and expenditure the Stay and Spend scheme is expected to generate. To qualify as a service provider, your businesses needs to:
  • Provide holiday accommodation and/or ‘dine-in’ food and drink services.

  • Be part of the Fáilte Ireland approved and registered accommodation framework if providing accommodation services.

  • Register for the scheme with Revenue.

Register your business

Registration to participate in the scheme is now open and registering is quick and simple.

You or your registered agent can register for the scheme by using the 'Stay and Spend - Service Provider Registration' link in the 'Other Services' section of ROS, Revenue’s Online Service here.
You will need to:

  • Provide a qualifying service

  • Be VAT-registered

  • Hold a current tax clearance certificate

For the majority of businesses, registration will be confirmed in ‘real-time’. If this is not possible you will be advised what you need to do to successfully register.

Leverage the scheme to drive sales

Fáilte Ireland is supporting Stay and Spend by promoting the scheme to consumers with a marketing campaign on national press and radio. We are encouraging tourism and hospitality businesses to register for the scheme and will support each participating business to maximise their involvement by providing a starter kit and digital toolkit to help promote the scheme to their consumers.

By displaying the Stay and Spend logo throughout tourism and hospitality establishments and on digital platforms, businesses can let customers know that they are participating in the scheme and will provide a valid, itemised receipt to consumers so that they can make a claim for the tax credit.
