Arts, crafts, design, literature, music and film on the itinerary as international media visit Dublin, Wicklow, Wexford and Kilkenny

A group of international journalists and bloggers from Austria, Belgium, Canada, the UK, Italy, Switzerland and the Netherlands have arrived in Ireland on a ‘Creative Ireland’ showcase through Dublin and Ireland’s Ancient East, hosted by Fáilte Ireland in conjunction with sister agency Tourism Ireland.

For a small Island, Ireland has made its mark across the globe in the field of arts, crafts, design, literature, music and film making.  The visit incorporated opportunities for the media to go behind the scenes in Dublin’s Temple Bar, see some film locations in Wicklow and meet with artists and craftspeople in counties Wexford and Kilkenny. Fáilte Ireland also arranged for Madeline Beoughan, from the Creative Ireland programme, speak to the journalists about the government initiative and the plans for the arts and culture in Ireland over the next five years.

Ciara Sugrue, Head of International Publicity with Fáilte Ireland, welcoming the group to Ireland, said:

“Fáilte Ireland is delighted to welcome these top international lifestyle media to Ireland with a combined circulation of 1.3 million.  We hope they will enjoy experiencing Ireland’s creative vibrant design and craft sector together with meeting some of the talented Irish craft people responsible for it.
“These trips are a wonderful opportunity for us to give influential commentators an authentic look at Ireland’s Arts, Film and Culture scene and experience at first-hand what we have to offer.
The itinerary includes:

• A bespoke walking tour of contemporary Dublin;
• A visit to the new Tenement Museum;
• An opportunity to learn about the productions filmed at the National Museum at Collins Barracks;
• A meeting with the Wicklow Film Commissioner, Vibeke Delahunt at Mount Usher Gardens;
• A Brooklyn Walking tour of Enniscorthy;
• Engaging with local craftspeople and a guided tour at Enniscorthy Castle;
• A visit with some of the Kilkenny Craft Trail members – Cushendale Woollen Mills, Clay Creations and Jerpont Glass;
• A behind the scenes look at Cartoon Saloon and Irish Animation Studio;
• A visit to the National Design & Craft Gallery;
• A guided walking tour of Kilkenny’s Medieval Mile.

It is hoped that the resulting coverage will encourage many of those overseas visitors interested in the arts and culture, to consider Ireland for their next trip.
