Transition units
Tourism is at heart of the Irish economy. Transition units provide a unique opportunity for students to explore and broaden their knowledge of their chosen unit.
The units are specifically tailored to facilitate an activity-based module for transition year students and their teachers.
Tourism studies - the Irish experience
This unit helps students to appreciate the value of their own locality. The unit is designed to introduce students to their locality as a tourist destination.
Students carry out group work, field trips and use media to make learning easier and more fun.
Good food - the Irish experience
Students examine trends in eating habits, and plan, prepare and cook a range of dishes. This practical unit prepares students with essential skills for life.

Fáilte Ireland's transition-year programmes provide students with knowledge and skills, which they may use in further education, or that will impact their lives and how they relate to society.
Students may enjoy the programmes so much they may consider working in the tourism industry. Each year thousands of students take up positions in the tourism industry on a part-time basis.
These programmes also equip students with a foundation for entry into third level tourism-related programmes. In short, there are many motivations for choosing one of these programmes.
