Fáilte Ireland launches Regional Tourism Management Programme for Tourism, Heritage and Rural Recreation Officers in the region

Fáilte Ireland today kicked off its Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands Regional Tourism Management Programme for Tourism, Heritage and Rural Recreation Officers in the Midlands region at Wineport Lodge in Athlone, Co. Westmeath.

Officers in Local Authorities provide a range of supports to tourism businesses and community groups. The Regional Tourism Management Programme, which will take place over eight days between now and April 2019, aims to support Officers in Local Authorities in their work and ensure that Fáilte Ireland and the Local Authorities are working together to build the Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands regional experience brand. The programme is being facilitated by Fáilte Ireland specialists, international consultants and other experienced and recognised industry leaders in tourism.

Speaking at the launch of the programme, Paddy Matthews, Head of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands at Fáilte Ireland, said:

“We’re delighted to see so many Local Authority Officers here today for the first day of the Regional Tourism Management Programme. Local Authorities are central to the delivery of county tourism strategies and are a hugely important partner for us here in Fáilte Ireland in the development and promotion of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands.

Following the launch of the regional experience brand in April this year, our focus now is on working closely with key partners, industry and communities in the area to develop the top-class visitor experiences that will be key to the success of the initiative. The Regional Tourism Management Programme will not only update attendees on developments to date but will also look at techniques for developing experiences that reflect the essence of Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, working with tour operators and forecasting for capital projects.”

The Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands Regional Tourism Management Programme is being undertaken by 23 Local Authority Tourism, Heritage and Rural Recreation Officers from across all nine counties in the Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands region.

Helen McDaid, Manager, Enterprise and Hospitality Supports at Fáilte Ireland said:

“The Regional Tourism Management Programme will cover a wide range of practical topics such as marketing, project management, experience development and community and industry activation. The benefits of such an initiative are long term – helping counties to work together and collaborate on the Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands regional experience brand.”
