Get a real taste of Ireland on a walk and whiskey tour of Whiddy Island.

Take the short ferry trip from historic Bantry, and islander Tim O’Leary will

share the secrets of theWest Cork island’s past. On your guided walk, you’ll

encounter traces left by previous generations, from Martello towers to the

old schoolhouse. Then head toWhiddy’s Bank House pub to sample the

distinctive flavours of Ireland’s exciting new single malt, single cask whiskeys.

Guided walking tour is available in English and Irish. The whiskey tour element

is available in English only, but the guide here has conversational German and

Italian.

The tour is available year-round, but may be cancelled if exceptional

circumstances lead to ferry cancellation, in which case alternative activities

and a new location for the whiskey tour can be arranged on the mainland.

Small locally-produced snacks are available as part of the experience.

Coach parking available in Bantry. Raingear and walking shoes required.

Good level of fitness will be necessary. Minimum age 18.

Experience Description

The Valentia Harbour tour experience starts with a walk with Tommy the boat

owner who farms sheep on Valentia Island and whose grandfather lived on

the island. Listen to the island stories, environment and the rich archaeology

of the island. Climb aboard an exciting 48 passenger Amphibious Boat with

Wheels and enjoy a tour of the harbour. Island Hop on Valentia Island and

land on uninhabited peaceful Begnis Island in sheltered Valentia Harbour.

not operate in near gale-force conditions. Amphibious boat is weather

independent.

Large car park at Marina Cahersiveen suitable for coaches and cars.

Moderate mobility required.

Boat experience is wheelchair friendly. No fitness required except

in optional walk.
