Fáilte Ireland brings Westmeath tourism businesses together to attract more overseas visitors

Fáilte Ireland brings Westmeath tourism businesses together to attract more overseas visitors

‘The towns that reap the greatest benefits from tourism are those where all local tourism players pull together.’ That’s the message to various tourism businesses across Westmeath from Fáilte Ireland today at a packed workshop attended by accommodation and activity providers, visitor attractions and hoteliers.

Fáilte Ireland organised the workshop on Developing Tourism Experiences and Clusters in Westmeath to provide tourism businesses across the county with the knowledge and training to grow their visitor numbers and revenue as part of the strong Ireland’s Ancient East brand.

The workshop, held at the Annebrook Hotel in Mullingar, provided expert training on understanding market trends and creating compelling visitor experiences that resonate well with tourists.

A core focus of the workshop was on bringing tourism businesses together to cross-sell and develop a cluster of visitor experiences to maximise a full tourism offering in the area. This is vital in attracting overseas visitors to stay overnight and drive more visitor spend in the region.

Head of Ireland’s Ancient East at Fáilte Ireland, Jenny De Saulles, said:

“Tourism is a key economic driver – it supports and creates employment in a way that many other industries struggle to achieve.  Its full potential in Westmeath can only be fulfilled if all tourism players pull together. This is a core focus of the Ireland’s Ancient East brand and we have been carrying out significant work on the ground, with tourism businesses, to develop the tourism offering here.

“The brand is all about bringing local heritage and culture to life through compelling and immersive visitor experiences that stand out to international tourists. This bespoke development workshop for Westmeath will tap into this and will help businesses to optimise their attraction or activity so they are in a prime position to put themselves forward for future development opportunities. Businesses working together to cross-promote and drive increased visitor numbers and revenue is also absolutely central to this programme.”
