Fáitle Ireland’s Authority meeting held in Galway

Fáilte Ireland’s Chairman, Michael Cawley, together with the senior management team and the entire Authority members of Fáilte Ireland - the National Tourism Development Authority - gathered in Kylemore Abbey on Tuesday 24 September, where it held its quarterly meeting.

A number of representatives from local Galway tourism businesses from the region were invited to brief the Authority members on their season to date and their future business plans.  These included the Connemara Sands Hotel, the Renvyle House Hotel, Blath na Mara Seaweed, Udaras na Gaeltachta, Galway County Council and CAITN (Connemara Aran Islands Tourism Network).

Galway is one of the three most popular counties in the country for overseas tourists.  18% of overseas tourists that came to Ireland last year visited Galway.

Fáilte Ireland has invested €1.7million in Kylemore Abbey and Gardens to help develop a new and exciting exhibition at the already well-known historic and cultural attraction. Fáilte Ireland’s Chair and Authority members got the opportunity to see first-hand Fáilte Ireland’s investment brought to life at the iconic location.

As part of this investment Kylemore Abbey has been restored and adapted to allow visitors access to:
• A large new wing of four authentically refurbished rooms to bring history to life.
• A new multimedia presentation that takes visitors on a journey through history using footage, archive photographs and artefacts, state of the art speaking portraits and beautifully updated period rooms with intriguing details throughout.

The landscape surrounding the Abbey has also been reconditioned to match the grandeur of the interior and to ensure access for those with reduced mobility.
