Award-Winning US Producer in Ireland to Film Top Irish Chefs - Catherine Fulvio, Jp McMahon, Andy McFadden and Alan Foley

Ireland’s food story will be beamed into 25 million homes throughout the US as award-winning producer Lisa-Renee Ramirez, Entertainment Studios USA and film crews are in Ireland to film two TV programmes, A Taste of Ireland (Recipe TV) and Discovering Ireland’s Ancient East (My Destination TV). Fáilte Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland, provided assistance to Ms Ramirez to see first-hand why Ireland’s reputation is fast growing as a world-class destination for food lovers.

Some of Ireland’s top chefs will feature in the programmes, including top Irish celebrity chef Catherine Fulvio, Ballyknocken House & Cookery School in Wicklow, Food on the Edge organiser Jp McMahon, and Aniar Restaurant, Galway, Andy McFadden, who was at one time the youngest chef in London with a Michelin star and now at Glover’s Alley, on St Stephen’s Green and Alan Foley, the Step House Hotel, Borris, who will also be foraging with Mary White at Blackstairs Eco Trails, Carlow.

Earlier this year Fáilte Ireland published a new Food and Drink Development Strategy to increase and enhance the awareness and perception of Ireland’s food and drink offering. Commenting on the importance of having the US film crews in Ireland to film our food offering, Tara Kerry, Fáilte Ireland’s  Hospitality Development Manager said:

“We have natural produce, fresh ingredients, and great fish and meat but we need to ensure that our food and drink offering gains a global reputation that matches the reality on the ground. With TV viewers from the US interested in learning new recipes and new destinations to visit, we welcome the opportunity to showcase our food through lifestyle programmes such as this and to reposition Irish food experiences firmly in the mind set of potential visitors.”

In addition to filming with the top chefs the crew will also include shots of Ireland’s Ancient East with local suppliers in Wicklow town, Powerscourt, Glendalough, and Kilmacurragh Gardens, Enniscorthy Castle, Kilkenny’s Medieval Mile with local guide Pat Tynan and Birr Castle Gardens & Science Centre. While on the Wild Atlantic Way the crew will film Galway’s Food Tour, Oysters at Moran’s Oyster Cottage on the Weir, the Chocolate Kitchen at Kylemore Abbey, Connemara Smokehouse and Roundstone Musical Instruments with Malachy Kearns.

Commenting on this exciting opportunity to showcase Ireland’s and its wonderful fresh products to the US viewers, Catherine Fulvio, said:

“It’s such a privilege for us here at Ballyknocken Cookery School to have the opportunity to showcase the best of our locally grown and artisan produced ingredients to this huge US audience. It’s an opportunity to tell our Irish food story and share our passion for our outstanding product. We hope it will inspire many to visit Ireland and enjoy the flavours of our Green Island.

“I was delighted to play my part in showcasing all that Wicklow and Ireland’s Ancient East can put on a Plate by filming Derek Dunnes Butchers - famous for their 200 year old black pudding recipe and for their award winning sausages and at The Fish Man where we picked up Wicklow river trout and their own Irish organic smoked salmon.  In addition, we filmed a picnic at Kilmacurragh Gardens with Olive who makes delicious chutneys, jams and relishes. Her company name is The Birds and The Teas and we are filming at Lugalla with the guys from Wicklow Wolf and at Powerscourt with craftsman Daniel Koenig who makes amazing chopping boards using native wood.“

Award-winning producer Lisa-Renee Ramirez, Entertainment Studios USA, commented:

“We love Ireland, and Entertainment Studios is thrilled to be here again thanks to our partnership with Fáilte Ireland and Tourism Ireland. We have two crews in the country capturing its glorious beauty and culinary flavours. I’m executive producing our Recipe.TV series, “A TASTE OF IRELAND” at Catherine Fulvios’s Ballyknocken Cookery School, while also overseeing our MyDestination.TV crew traveling through Wexford and Kilkenny with Irish Host Jenny Buckley, “DISCOVERING IRELAND’S ANCIENT EAST. We’re so excited to share our Irish-themed Recipe & Travel shows with our American audience!”

Fáilte Ireland provided this promotional video to demonstrate the full potential of Irish food.
