Irish Food Serves as the Perfect Side Dish to Business Pitches at Frankfurt Trade Exhibition

Fáilte Ireland team currently in Germany promoting Ireland as a world-class meeting and events destination

Fáilte Ireland’s Meet in Ireland team are currently in Germany promoting Ireland as a world-class corporate meeting and events destination at the annual IMEX Frankfurt Trade Exhibition, which takes place from 15-17 May. IMEX is one of the largest worldwide exhibitions for incentive travel, meetings and events which is attended by over 14,000 industry professionals who gather to learn more about what’s on offer to the business visitor.

As well as promoting the range of venues, supports and facilities available in Ireland for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Events (MICE), a key focus of Fáilte Ireland’s pitch at this year’s IMEX will be on the country’s authentic and unique food offering. Top Irish chef and food writer, and owner of Dublin’s Medley restaurant, Andrew Rudd will showcase the best of Irish food to buyers from across the globe.

The Meet in Ireland team, along with 36 Irish MICE businesses, will be on hand at IMEX to share more detailed information on why buyers should choose Ireland for their MICE events, with 19 buyer presentations scheduled to take place across the three-day event.

Ahead of this major European showcase event, Fáilte Ireland’s Head of Commercial Development, Paul Mockler, said:
“Events like IMEX are a massive opportunity to get major overseas meetings, conferences and events booked in for the year ahead and, with countries from across Europe all bidding for business, we need to stand out from the crowd.

“Business tourism is the most lucrative form of tourism, with visitors travelling to Ireland for business purposes spending almost three times more than the average leisure visitor. We know that business tourists are not only looking for world-class venues and facilities - more and more, meeting planners are seeking destinations with large clusters of aligned industries and industry leaders. Home to well over 1,000 multinationals and the brightest of minds, Ireland is well placed to deliver this as a centre of innovation.”

Speaking about the showcase of Irish food at this year’s event, Ciara Gallagher, Meet in Ireland Manager, added:
“Business visitors also want the opportunity to immerse themselves in the culture of the country they’re visiting and that’s why, this year, we are showcasing the best of Irish food. This - alongside Ireland’s ease of access, amazing landscapes, top hospitality and incredibly strong industries - will give global buyers at IMEX another compelling reason to sell Ireland to their clients.”

Meet in Ireland will also host a group of prestigious European associations executives for a familiarisation trip to Dublin following IMEX to show them first-hand the potential opportunities available to them in Ireland. This familiarisation trip has the potential to win up to 10,500 delegates to Ireland with a value of almost €17m.
