Over 1,200 mytaxi drivers sign up for Fáilte Ireland’s Dublin Welcome Programme

Fáilte Ireland is delighted to announce a partnership with mytaxi, as part of the Dublin Welcome Programme. This Programme is designed to maximise every interaction with tourists, by providing great experiences based on local knowledge. An online training course has been developed, which has been customised from the National Tourism Development’s Authority’s highly successful Accredited Service Excellence Programme, which has been completed by over 500 tourism related businesses nationally. To date over 1,200 mytaxi drivers have signed up to the online training module, which provides information on Dublin’s main attractions and the importance of local knowledge when welcoming visitors.

The initiative will provide mytaxi drivers with information on the importance of tourism to the economy, Fáilte Ireland’s programme brands and includes guidance on how to deal with customer-service expectations, feedback and queries. Successful trainees will receive a Fáilte Ireland Service Excellence certificate.

The Minister of State for Tourism, Brendan Griffin T.D. speaking on the initiative said:

“The importance of providing excellence in customer experience cannot be underestimated especially in tourism facing sectors. For example, 35% of international visitors use the services of a taxi while here and it is extremely important that this first interaction is positive as we want visitors to experience the very best of Dublin. By undertaking the ‘Dublin Welcome Programme’, mytaxi drivers are showing their commitment to enhancing customer care and service provided to their passengers.”

Liz Halpin, Head of Dublin at Fáilte Ireland said:

“The Dublin Welcome Programme provides an opportunity for Dublin mytaxi drivers to be recognised for ‘best in class’ customer experience and provision of great visitor experiences. As part of the online training for the Programme, drivers will learn about exceeding customer expectations, handling customer feedback and how to continually improve the customer’s experience.”

Fiona Brady, Head of Operations, Ireland, at mytaxi, said:

“This new initiative will allow mytaxi drivers to enhance their service offering to customers, by further improving their local knowledge on Dublin's main attractions and customer experience for visitors, through a user-friendly online training course. We are delighted to see the mytaxi driver response to Fáilte Ireland’s Dublin Welcome Programme so far. With cross-border use of the mytaxi app across Europe up 200% last year, this programme is a tremendous opportunity for mytaxi drivers to be ambassadors for our city and benefit from Ireland’s vibrant tourism sector.”
