Top Journalists and Bloggers on ‘Tranquility Ireland’ Showcase


Tourism Agencies Showcase Westmeath, Cavan  and Leitrim to International Media with a circulation of  8 Million

Fáilte Ireland, in conjunction with Tourism Ireland, are currently showcasing attractions and places to stay in Westmeath, Cavan and Leitrim to a group of international media who arrived this week on a ‘Tranquility Ireland’ visit.The emphasis of the press trip was the opportunity to be had in Ireland for overseas visitors to really get away from it all, get back to nature and truly relax. The media group includes freelance writer from the hugely influential National Geographic Traveller India with over 4.5 million viewers as well as bloggers, lifestyle travel writers and photographers from [India, Canada, Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Germany, Italy and the US. For most of these visiting journalists, it is their first experience of visiting Ireland.

The media visit included experiencing some of Ireland’s iconic tourism attractions such as the Hill of Uisneach, Tullynally Castle and the Fore Abbey in Westmeath; a tour of Cavan Museum, Cavan Burren and kayaking on Lough Oughter in Cavan and then it’s on to the Shed Distillery in Drumshambo and explore the new floating boardwalk at Acres Lake, Ireland’s first ever ‘floating walkway’ followed by a leisurely stroll around Carrick on Shannon, Leitrim.

Alex Connolly, Head of Corporate Communications & International Publicity with Fáilte Ireland welcomed the group to Ireland, said:

Last year was a bumper year for international media coming to Ireland from 20 overseas markets.  Over 1,400 representatives from print, broadcast and online channels across the world descended on our shores during the year providing Irish tourism with an overall reach to over 9.2 billion worldwide. The equivalent advertising value of this reach is estimated at over €104 million.  Fáilte Ireland, together with Tourism Ireland, co-ordinated over 400 different itineraries resulting in the media representatives meeting with over 4,000 Irish businesses across the country.
