    Fáilte Ireland's Welcome Standard

Fáilte Ireland is the National Tourism Development Authority. Our role is to support the tourism industry and work to sustain Ireland as a high-quality and competitive tourism destination. We provide a range of practical business supports to help tourism businesses better manage and market their products and services.

We also work with other state agencies and representative bodies, at local and national levels, to implement and champion positive and practical strategies that will benefit Irish tourism and the Irish economy. We promote Ireland as a holiday destination through our domestic marketing campaign, DiscoverIreland.ie, and manage a network of nationwide tourist information centres (create link to list of TIOs) that provide help and advice for visitors to Ireland.

Quality Assured bannerWe have developed new standards to allow for greater innovation, individuality and authenticity in our approved tourist accommodation businesses.

    Standards

The standards recognise accommodation businesses of all types and styles that are committed to tourism and to maintaining high standards and practices throughout their business. It is targeted at atypical tourist accommodation businesses who do not fit in the existing approval frameworks such as glamping, pods, shepherd huts, yurts, lighthouses, etc.

The standards identify the strengths of businesses, without taking away any of the character and style of the individual property.

The emphasis of the standards are focused on qualitative and behavioural standards, the customer journey, meeting customer expectations and the quality of the experience. The standards are aimed at businesses that engage with their customers throughout all parts of the customer journey. The areas addressed have been designed to be comprehensive and are in line with domestic and international guest expectations. They focus on the fundamental guest-orientated aspects of the business.

    Code of Ethics

Boat on a riverBusinesses are required to comply with our new Tourism Code of Ethics. This underpins the new standards and identifies practices and procedures that are common to all successful, responsible and sustainable Irish tourist accommodation businesses.

The Code of Ethics ensure that all the activities of the business are conducted with respect for the artistic, historic and cultural heritage of Ireland and where possible, integrate with and benefit the local community and environment.

    Assessment

Businesses wishing to be approved with the new Welcome Standard must meet minimum standards, including confirmation of all legal compliance, and a code of ethics and conduct (i.e. cleanliness, customer care and complaints handling).

Our Welcome Standard for tourist accommodation plays a vital part in our national strategy and underlines Ireland’s commitment to championing quality. We wish to work with these businesses to ensure the best possible welcome to our country by recognising and promoting the quality of service, hospitality and facilities that businesses provide.

Choosing to be assessed against our national Welcome Standard by independent professional assessors will reassure your guests that you are seriously committed to their welfare and enjoyment.

Whatever the style or concept of the business, quality, comfort and a commitment to guest satisfaction are what the guests and we will be looking for.

The Fáilte Ireland Welcome Standard encourages tourist accommodation businesses to work with, and promote other businesses in their town/locality, which will benefit, your business, the town/locality and the tourist.
