Climate Action Programme: Eligibility and guidelines

These guidelines help you understand whether the Climate Action Programme is right for your business, what’s involved, and the commitment required to take part. 

Before you apply

Check your fit

  • Operate a tourism business in Ireland that delivers visitor experiences or services for domestic or international visitors 
  • Have the capacity to commit to a three-year programme and spend at least €10,000 annually on energy (excluding transport) 

Who can take part in the Climate Action Programme?

  • Tourism businesses operating in IrelandThe programme is open to tourism businesses based in the Republic of Ireland that provide a visitor experience or cater to domestic and/or international visitors.
  • Open to all tourism sectorsThere are no sector restrictions. Accommodation providers, visitor attractions, activity providers and other tourism businesses are all eligible to apply.
  • Commitment to climate actionParticipants must be willing to assess their carbon footprint, prioritise actions and embed climate action into everyday business decisions over time.

What you need to know about State aid (De Minimis)

Support provided through this programme is considered State aid under De Minimis rules, and eligibility will be confirmed as part of the process. The programme offers support valued at €23,351.55 over the three year period.

Participants should be prepared to commit to the programme over three years. This includes:

  • Completing an initial site audit
  • Working with expert advisor to develop a tailored climate action action plan
  • Providing baseline data and annual update
  • Tracking progress over time
